Crochet artist, Ashley V. Blalock makes 15 Foot tall, web like doilies with bold red cotton and yarn. These forms look like they burst from corners and walls, a fusion of craft with fine arts.
The content theme is the exploration of domestic living and of how people try to maintain outward appearances for the world.
Based in Southern California, these delicate doilies are presented as enormous, intricate sculptures which sometimes span as high as 15-feet-tall. When these sculptures these exploding doilies no longer appear delicate, and overpowers the viewed with the intense, stimulating colour and size.

Blalock says, “The doilies themselves represent a certain desire to keep up the appearance of gentility to the outside world expressed through the arrangement of objects in the domestic setting.”
